Bamboo Matcha Whisk (Chasen) 

Elevate your daily matcha ritual with our traditional Bamboo Matcha Whisk — also known as a chasen. Handcrafted from a single piece of natural bamboo, this essential tool creates the smooth, creamy froth that transforms matcha from powder into a perfectly balanced cup.

Designed with finely carved prongs, the chasen gently aerates matcha, helping to dissolve clumps and release its rich umami flavour and vibrant colour.

Unlike metal whisks or electric frothers, a bamboo chasen protects the delicate taste of matcha and preserves the authenticity of the ritual.

How to Use
  1. Soak the bamboo whisk (chasen) in warm water for 1-2 minutes to soften the bristles and prevent breakage.

  2. Sift 1–2 teaspoons of matcha into your cup or bowl.

  3. Pour 70-80°C (158-176°F) water into the bowl—avoid boiling water to preserve matcha’s flavour.  

  4. Whisk in a gentle “W” motion until a light foam forms on top.

  5. Rinse with warm water and allow to air dry.

For best longevity, pair with a whisk holder to maintain the prong shape.

With daily use it is recommended to replace your whisk every 3-6 months, or with occasional use and proper care replace up to 1-2 years. Replace it immediately if you notice broken or severely frayed tines, mold, or if it has lost its shape and cannot produce a frothy, smooth foam.

Matcha Set Care & Use Instructions

Before First Use:
- Soak the bamboo whisk (chasen) in warm water for 1-2 minutes to soften the bristles and prevent breakage.
- Rinse the bamboo scoop (chashaku), ceramic bowl, and whisk holder with warm water.

How to Use:
1. Add 1-2 scoops of matcha powder to the ceramic bowl using the bamboo scoop.
2. Pour 70-80°C (158-176°F) water into the bowl—avoid boiling water to preserve matcha’s flavour.
3. Whisk in a zigzag (M or W) motion using the bamboo whisk until frothy.
4. Place the whisk on the ceramic holder after rinsing to maintain its shape.

Care Instructions:
- Whisk: Rinse with warm water immediately after use. Do not use soap. Let it air dry on the whisk holder to prevent mold.
- Scoop: Wipe with a dry cloth after each use. Avoid soaking in water to prevent warping.
- Bowl & Holder: Hand wash with mild soap and warm water. Dishwasher safe, but hand washing is recommended for longevity.

Storage:
- Keep the whisk and scoop in a dry, well-ventilated area to prevent mold.
- Store the set away from direct sunlight and humidity for optimal durability.
